One of the spooky things about writing Thriller novels these days is that they keep turning real. This has happened so often that the Tag Line on my author’s site is “Thrillers are fiction, until it happens….”
Orwell’s Truth
We live in Orwellian times where truth is elusive. Sometimes it may take awhile for even the author to catch on. My first novel God’s House was published in early 2011, and started several years earlier. It took some five years for it to turn real, but now it has.
The technology behind this novel was the question, “What if we could have limitless clean energy? Would this be a blessing or a curse?”
That reality has NOT happened.
Instead of a quest for the clean, limitless energy long promised in Science Fiction (e.g. the Anti-Matter engines that drove the USS Enterprise in Star Trek), it has been more politically correct to go back to less reliable, more expensive “pseudo-Green” technologies such as Wind, Solar (not beamed from satellites which has technical merit, but from local photocells), etc.
So “Green” has been the heavily-subsidized policy, rolling up trillions in debt, often for the benefit of foreign companies and speculators who make generous political “donations” to those who subsidize it.
Today America and our allies in Europe have windmills, 16th Century technology, while our enemies like Iran have nuclear power, and, soon, Nuclear Weapons and delivery systems. But that’s another story, one explored in my more recent novels like Raven’s Run and Raven’s Redemption.
Weaponized Bureaucracies
So what exactly did God’s House predict?
The Selling of America
Weaponized, unaccountable global forces lining up to bypass the Constitution and inflict tyranny (a theme which continued into Privacy Wars). Good Americans set up to be assassinated in squalid 3rd world countries. International puppet masters working behind the scenes with respected leaders to corrupt government and steal American assets (such as my character, the evil Mr. Vogel).
Today we have unaccountable bureaucrats harassing American citizens, helping to steal their property, just as was suffered by Anne and Bob Davis in God’s House.
I’m currently in the process of republishing all my novels to get them into more distribution channels: all the e-Book channels, plus hardcover, etc. I stopped, stunned, when my eyes hit this paragraph from my first novel, written so many years ago. Imagine changing a few words: “Vogel” to “Soros,” “Reverend Liz” to “Hillary,” “church” to “Clinton Foundation,” etc.
Who knew? Not me. I thought I made this stuff up.

At this writing, August 2016, there are now over 200,000 non-military federal officers with arrest and firearm authority, surpassing the 182,100 personnel who are actively serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Thugs and Goons
Bureaucratic goons now have guns. They are being given more resources and better equipment than our own military along with full access to our secrets. My novel depicted the beginning of this. It’s now real, and our Congressional checks and balances have, so far, not been effective in stopping it, much less at punishing the perpetrators.
Sinister international figures have been buying influence in Congress and the White House, as have foreign governments. For all practical purposes, they, not We the People, have been setting national policy. “Pay for play” and pseudo-charities like the “Clinton Foundation” have seeded widespread corruption. The reader can see early versions of all these things in God’s House.
Despite years of objections and Congressional hearings that found lies and misconduct, political enemies are still being raided by the IRS. No one at the IRS was arrested or fired, though some were put on paid leaves of absence. Link.
The Bundy Cow
Ranchers and Miners are having their property taken. If they resist, they are being attacked by the BLM, EPA, and various other agencies, even being charged with Federal Crimes as terrorists. Link.
We’ve had a long string of cases where local law enforcement got in deep trouble with the Feds for shooting some Black Thug in self-defense. For example, though Eric Holder, then head of the DOJ, admitted that “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” was all a lie, the Federal incursions on local authority this propaganda enabled continue.
The First Amendment doesn’t matter?
The health care sector, 1/6 of the U.S. Economy, is, for all practical purposes, under total government control. A variety of agencies can now come in with force and take your children away. Complain about misconduct on the part of an illegal immigrant, especially a Muslim, and you may face the wrath of the DOJ and Federal charges of a hate crime.
The First Amendment is at risk.
So far, most of the arrests are being delegated to the FBI, but not always. The Bundy Ranch was raided by BLM in 2014. That did not prevail until 2016, when those who had resisted were taken by the FBI and imprisoned. A similar occurrence transpired in 2015-2016, when ranchers were arrested for conducting their normal business in Oregon. Link.
The BLM now has its own SWAT team, led by the same person who presided over the raid on the Bundy ranch, which involved shooting his prize bulls in their pens, tearing down his fences, cutting his water lines, and running his cattle to death with helicopters.
More than one Republican Candidate (including Ted Cruz and more vocally Donald Trump) have noted that we have gone beyond the “taxation without representation” that led to the American Revolution. Today we have “legislation without representation,” where all the Federal Bureaucracies can write their own rules which have the weight of law unless overturned by Congress or the Courts. Link.
We also have citizens being arrested for “thought crimes” — not for anything that they have actually done, but for what they may have been thinking. This is right out of the old Soviet Russia. Link.
From the very beginning of his Administration, Obama was saying he wanted a private army of bureaucrats at his disposal that was “just as strong” as the U.S. Military. Here is an Obama Speech (given in Oregon) from 2008. Link.

Talk about trying to keep guns out of the “wrong hands.” All this time, I thought more guns equaled more violence and crime. If that’s the case, then why do these non-military government bureaucrats have more guns than the U.S. Marines do?
Over the past several years, it has been reported that government bureaucrats in many non-military agencies – such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and even the United States Postal Service (USPS) and Department of Education (DoE) – have been stockpiling guns and ammo.
Gun owners are frequently portrayed in the media and by politicians as being “paranoid conspiracy theorists” for stockpiling guns and ammo in anticipation of more gun control laws. But when the government does it, it’s because they’re trying to keep us safe. It’s for the children.
A taxpayer watchdog group called Open the Books released a study earlier this week that found that non-military government agencies are continuing to stock up on firearms – even “assault rifles” – and ammunition. The Washington Free Beacon reported:
The “Militarization of America” report found civilian agencies spent $1.48 billion on guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment between 2006 and 2014. Examples include IRS agents with AR-15s, and EPA bureaucrats wearing camouflage.
“Regulatory enforcement within administrative agencies now carries the might of military-style equipment and weapons,” Open the Books said. “For example, the Food and Drug Administration includes 183 armed ‘special agents,’ a 50 percent increase over the ten years from 1998-2008. At Health and Human Services (HHS), ‘Special Office of Inspector General Agents’ are now trained with sophisticated weaponry by the same contractors who train our military Special Forces troops.”

The IRS spent nearly $11 million on guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment for its 2,316 special agents. The tax collecting agency has billed taxpayers for pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns, semi-automatic Smith & Wesson M&P15s, and Heckler & Koch H&K 416 rifles, which can be loaded with 30-round magazines.
The EPA spent $3.1 million on guns, ammo, and equipment, including drones, night vision, “camouflage and other deceptive equipment,” and body armor. It recently convicted Joe Robertson, a 77 year old rancher and Navy Vet from Montana, of a felony and sent him to Federal Prison for 18 months for the “crime” of digging some cattle ponds for his stock. Gun Control
This is ironic, given that Democrats – led by Democrat Rep. John Lewis – staged a “sit-in” protest on the House floor, hoping to force a vote on gun control measures that would make it more difficult for everyday Americans to purchase guns. Maybe they should stage a protest aimed at getting the over-200,000 government bureaucrats to give up their guns.

The thoughts? Your waste basket must be FULL of manuscripts you had to throw out because they have come true before you even got them ready to publish!
Frankly, it’s not just me.
A lot of the stuff in good Thriller novels today — not just my books, also those by others in the genre with top names (e.g., Brad Thor, etc. ) — is turning real. Novelists are being attacked by trolls and censors who are trying to silence them. One result is that old books from the era of tyrants like Stalin and Hitler, books like 1984, are again on reading lists.
Polls show that over 70% of the public DISTRUSTS THE MEDIA.
As they should. The media is notorious for FAKE NEWS. Hollywood has largely become disconnected from reality. America in recent years has become politically psychotic, a place where our elected leaders tend to view the world though a “political lens” as opposed to a “reality lens.”
Political correctness has caused a “fundamental change” to our culture. People have been afraid to speak out against radical Islamic jihad. Violent crimes committed by illegals with long rap sheets are ignored, police are assassinated, terrorist attacks are blamed on Internet videos, etc. Taking guns away from the “good guys” is proposed as a “solution” after each mass shooting or terrorist attack.
I think most of us thriller writers would prefer that the “real world” was a less scary place. I know I would.
It will happen. This too will pass. Perhaps people like you reading Thriller novels and talking about them to friends might in some small way help to make this happen sooner. I hope so.
